„Wer oder was ist SPECK? Schaut man auf Wikipedia, handelt es sich um ein allseits
beliebtes Dörrfleisch-Produkt. Im engeren Sinne um das Fettgewebe von Schweinen, das
zwischen Haut und Muskeln liegt. Abseits rein kulinarischer Definitionen ist da dieses
PSYCHEDELIC- und SPACE-ROCK-QUARTETT aus ÖSTERREICH; bereits jetzt ein absolutes
Highlight dieses Genres.
SPECK spielen einen epochal-groovigen Sound der dem geneigten Hörer so plötzlich in
die Beine fährt wie der Teufel in die armen Seelen. BASSLINES so mega fett, dass selbst
der überzeugteste Anhänger jener eingangs erwähnten Fleischerei-Spezialität dagegen
wirkt wie ein magersüchtiger Asket. Dazu scheppernd ein WILDES TREIBENDES
SCHLAGZEUG, ergänzt durch einen SYNTH, der den Raum ins All und wieder
zurückschießt, und ein IRRES GITARRENSPIEL, das ständig zwischen EXPERIMENTELL
KREISCHENDER RASEREI und RHYTHMISCH NUANCIERTEM FEINZEICHNER oszilliert. Das
Ganze verbindet sich zu einer Melange, einem KALEIDOSKOP AUS INNOVATION und einer
PRISE NOSTALGIE.
Das alles wird von der Band live so routiniert und unaufgeregt aufgeführt, als seien sie zu
einem LOCKEREN JAM IM PROBERAUM, während die Crowd in Raserei verfällt. Vom
musikalischen Feingeist, der bevorzugt Jazz- und Psychedelicplatten der SIEBZIGER hört,
bis zum Hardcore-Anhänger mit der Bitte um SCHNELLE DRUMS UND HARTE RIFFS
kommt hier jeder auf seine Kosten. Mehr noch, der Teufel selbst soll auf diversen
Auftritten der Band aus dem höllischen Schlund emporgestiegen sein, um SPECK seine
eigene Seele für eine Zugabe zu verkaufen.“
„Who or what is SPECK? If you look it up, it’s German for a widely popular cured meat
product. More specifically, it refers to the fatty tissue of pigs, located between the skin
and muscles. Yes, bacon. Beyond this purely culinary definition, there is this
PSYCHEDELIC and SPACE ROCK TRIO from AUSTRIA, already an absolute highlight of the
genre.
SPECK plays an epic, groovy sound that hits the listener’s legs as suddenly as the devil
takes possession of lost souls. BASSLINES so massively fat that even the most devout
fan of the aforementioned butcher specialty seems like a scrawny ascetic in comparison.
Alongside this, a CLASHING, WILD, DRIVING DRUMBEAT, complemented by INSANE
GUITAR PLAYING that constantly oscillates between EXPERIMENTAL, SCREECHING
FRENZY and RHYTHMICALLY NUANCED PRECISION. The whole thing blends into a
mélange, a KALEIDOSCOPE OF INNOVATION with a hint of NOSTALGIA.
All of this is performed live by the band with such ease and composure, as if they were at
a CASUAL JAM SESSION in the rehearsal room, while the crowd descends into a frenzy.
From the musical connoisseur who prefers jazz and psychedelic records from the
SEVENTIES to the hardcore fan demanding FAST DRUMS AND HARD RIFFS, everyone gets
their money’s worth here. Even more so, it is said that the devil himself has risen from the
